Lenovo shows off ThinkPad laptops with Intel Broadwell chips

Lenovo announces that 100 million ThinkPad laptops have been sold. At the same time, the company reports the arrival of new models with Intel Broadwell processors, including the X1 Carbon ultrabook. There will also be a modular, stackable system for accessories.

One of the ThinkPad laptops getting a Broadwell upgrade is the X1 Carbon ultrabook. This model will receive an economical Intel Core chip of the U generation, which, according to the manufacturer, should provide a battery life of 10.9 hours in combination with a 50Wh battery. The previous X1 Carbon would last 8.6 hours in the same scenario. In addition, the minimum resolution of the 14″ screen that the model comes with is now 1920×1080 pixels, where it was 1600×900 pixels on the previous model. Lenovo also mentions the option for a PCI-e SSD and the mouse buttons are above the touchpad is now back as standard.The X1 Carbon with Broadwell chip will be available in January and the starting price in the US is $ 1249, converted 1046 euros.

The ThinkPad T550 is also a high-end ultrabook, but this model has a 15.6″ screen, the resolution of which will be a maximum of 2880×1620 pixels. The processor will be a Broadwell model from the U-generation and the T550 will receive a maximum of 2880×1620 pixels. 16GB RAM and an SSD with a storage capacity of 512GB.The battery has a capacity of 72Wh, with which a battery life of 17 hours can be achieved.The starting price is $999, converted to EUR 836 and sales will start in February.

The T450s and T450 have similar specifications as the T550 but get a 14″ screen. A step lower in the ThinkPad product portfolio are the E550 and E450, which, however, are equipped with the AMD Radeon R7 M260 and R7 M265 video card respectively. The ThinkPad L450 comes in cheaper configurations, such as with an AMD Radeon R5 M240, and this model is also a lot heavier than the T450. All of the laptops mentioned are due out in February.

The ThinkVision is a business screen with a diagonal of 23.8 inches and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is a monitor with an IPS panel with display port and HDMI, whose special properties are that the thickness at the thinnest point is 7.5 mm and the back is made of metal for a high-end appearance. The price is $250, which is 209 in euros.

Finally, Lenovo announces the ThinkPad Stack. This is a series of accessories for the laptops that can be stacked and then connected to the laptop with a single cable. The parts can be snapped together magnetically. Lenovo comes with a HDD with a capacity of 1TB, a Bluetooth speaker, an extra battery with a capacity of 10,000mAh and a WiFi hotspot.
