Code on Sony’s website states that buyers can only purchase one PlayStation 5

Code on Sony’s website points out that customers may only be able to purchase one copy per person by the end of this year. Users who put multiple consoles in their shopping cart can then see a warning that this is not allowed.

The hint to the policy was discovered by a user of the ResetEra forum. He discovered an error code in the JavaScript code of the relatively new direct PlayStation shop that appears when users order multiple consoles at the same time. “You can only order one version of the PS5 console: disc or digital. You have already added a PS5 console to your cart,” the code reads. It is still there at the moment.

That code may indicate that Sony only allows one copy per customer. That is not certain; PlayStation Direct is a webshop that has only been in existence since September last year, and currently only sells to American buyers. It is also not yet known whether Sony will limit the reduction to one copy per buyer to its own site, or whether retailers should also adhere to this.

Not much is known about buying the PlayStation 5 yet; Sony still has not announced an official price and exact release date for the console. The company would have increased the production of consoles, possibly because of the increasing demand for consoles due to the corona pandemic.

In addition to the copy limitation, the site also includes tag code for compatible games and devices. That label appears on products that work on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Sony said earlier that ‘the vast majority’ of the PS4 games can also be played on the new console.
