Download Linux kernel 2.6.27

Linus Torvalds has announced a new 2.6 Linux kernel on the Linux Kernel Mailing List. This time it concerns version 2.6.27, which is available from the usual mirror server can be downloaded in different versions. Torvalds doesn’t reveal much in the announcement about what exactly has changed in the new stable kernel, but the folks at the Linux Kernel Newbies website have this document keep track of changes that have been made. For example, kernel 2.6.27 can handle the Ubifs file system used for mtd flash memories and Xen support has been further improved. Furthermore, the kernel recognizes even more webcams and network cards:

So not a lot happened after -rc9, which is mostly good. I certainly don’t want to have any upheavals at the end of an -rc series, although I wouldn’t have minded more people looking at the regression list. That said, I think we’re in pretty good shape, and it’s not like I can hold back releases indefinitely anyway.

The shortlog from -rc9 really is small, and I doubt many people will
notice the changes. And as usual, if you want to know about the big

but most important is obviously to just test it. Especially if you’ve been
a bad boy (or girl) and haven’t been testing the -rc’s.
