The Time4Popcorn team behind Popcorn Time’s Android app recently released a new version that features VPN functionality. That way, users can watch movies anonymously.

The Time4Popcorn team announced the new feature in a blog post. For the functionality, the developers work together with VPN provider Kebrum. Normally you have to pay for that service, but for Popcorn Time Kebrum has made an exception.

The Android application and the streaming service Popcorn Time itself are not without controversy. Popcorn Time uses the BitTorrent protocol, which can be used to distribute content from illegal sources. The service was announced as an experiment early this year, and after the original developers pulled out, third parties continued to work on the source code.

Immediately after the first release, the application caused quite a stir due to its ease of use, the slick interface and the large amount of content. As a result, Popcorn Time is seen as a formidable competitor to paid services. Last month, the developers added Chromecast support to the Android application.
