Chat app Threema also makes video calls for group chats available for iOS

iOS users of chat app Threema can now participate in group video calls. Threema’s video calls are end-to-end encrypted and support up to 16 participants. The feature has been available for Android for some time.

It video calling with a group is possible by tapping the phone icon in a group chat. Group members can join the video call at any time and have the choice of whether or not to turn on their camera. Group calls have been supported for Android users of Threema since the end of 2022. From now on it is also possible iOS users start a group chat video call.

Threema is a chat app from Switzerland that focuses on privacy. While competing chat apps are free to use, Threema costs 6 euros in Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. Threema has been around since 2012 and was initially called Eeema, which stands for ‘End-to-end encrypted messaging application’. At the time of October 2022, Threema 11 million users managed to attract, including 2 million business users.
