Rumor: Apple will offer ‘iPhone 8’ with new soc starting at $399
Apple would like to offer a new version of the iPhone 8 starting at $399. The manufacturer sells the current iPhone 8 from 2017 for 449 dollars, or 539 euros in the Benelux. Rumors have been circulating for months about the phone, which would be released early next year.
There will be variants with 64GB and 128GB of storage, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suspects, according to MacRumors. Kuo often writes reports about unannounced Apple products, often making accurate predictions. The updated version of the iPhone 8 would appear with 3GB of lpddr4x memory, where the iPhone 8 now has 2GB of memory. The soc would be the same A13 as the one in the recent iPhone 11 models. The design would be the same as that of the iPhone 8, with the same 4.7″ LCD and the same Touch ID home button.
The price of $399 would be $50 below the price Apple is now asking for the iPhone 8. The last time Apple provided an older iPhone with newer components was in 2016, when the iPhone SE came out for $399. In the Benelux that came down to 489 euros at the time.
With the arrival of the new iPhone 8, last year’s XR would be the oldest iPhone that Apple itself sells. That is currently the 8. Apple has already removed models such as the 7 and SE from its range, although they are still available at other stores. The iPhone 8 came out in the fall of 2017, the SE appeared in March 2016.
