Nintendo announces a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This RPG was first released for the GameCube in 2004 and will also be available for the Nintendo Switch twenty years later.

Nintendo hasn’t mentioned a concrete release date yet, but says during his Direct presentation that the remake of The Thousand-Year Door will be released next year. According to Nintendo, the Switch version of the RPG will have ‘improved graphics’, but retains the story and gameplay of the original. The game consists, as the name suggests, of paper cutouts of Mario characters. The game includes platforming and turn-based battles on a stage.

The remake of The Thousand-Year Door follows a remake of Super Mario RPG, which will be released in November. The Paper Mario series is a spiritual successor. Nintendo previously released the first Paper Mario game for the Nintendo 64 for the Nintendo Switch. The company did this through its Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, with which it makes several N64 games available for its latest console.
