Sony has added support for 8TB SSDs and Dolby Atmos audio to the PlayStation 5 with a software update. The manufacturer previously released those features with a beta update, but now they are generally available.

Sony adds the features with firmware update 23.03-08.00.00, which is now available for the console. This means that users can now install PCIe 4.0 SSDs of up to 8TB in their PS5. To date, that maximum was 4TB. For information about SSD compatibility, refer the company to its support pages. For example, the company recommends SSDs that achieve read speeds of at least 5.5GB/s.

Sony consoles also receive support for Dolby Atmos with the update. This makes it possible to use Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech technology in combination with HDMI devices that support Atmos audio, such as soundbars and TVs. Users can enable Dolby Atmos in the audio settings, under Audio Format.

The PlayStation 5 will also get the other features that Sony added in its most recent beta update. This makes it possible to use a second controller to assist a player. Users can use two controllers as if they were one. Furthermore, it will be possible to enable haptic feedback during UI navigation, the Party interface will be adjusted and a preview image will now be shown when sharing a screen. It is also possible to disable the beep sound when turning the console on and off.
