LastPass to use autofill APIs with Android O
LastPass has announced that it will be using the autofill APIs that are part of the successor to the most recent Android version. That should bring improvements when it comes to entering passwords and other data in apps.
In the current version of the password manager, it is already possible to have passwords entered in other apps, but according to LastPass, this method has some drawbacks. For example, the feature currently works through Android’s accessibility options. This approach takes up more processor capacity and also requires users to give the app additional permissions.
The new version of Android, with version number eight or tentatively labeled “O”, introduces a number of innovations, including autofill APIs. This service allows users to choose their own autofill app, which they can use to fill in certain information in form fields. The main users of this feature will include password managers like LastPass. The disadvantages of the current approach should therefore be remedied. In addition, the process of filling in data should be faster because of the integration.
LastPass recently made headlines for a number of vulnerabilities in its browser extensions. As a result, the company advised desktop users to disable the autofill options for now. The leaks have now been closed.
