Apple: Many leaks from CIA documents have already been closed

Apple claims to have patched many of the vulnerabilities described in CIA documents in the latest version of iOS. The company reports that it is working hard to fix newly discovered vulnerabilities as soon as possible.

That many vulnerabilities have already been fixed is apparent from an initial analysis of the CIA documents published by WikiLeaks. Apple does not report exactly how many iOS problems have been solved in its statement to TechCrunch. The documents published Tuesday described 14 iOS exploits, against 24 Android vulnerabilities.

Apple’s claim means that many users of iPhones and iPads are already protected from misuse of the vulnerabilities. The company emphasizes that almost 80 percent of users are on the latest version of iOS. On Tuesday, WikiLeaks published a large number of documents describing, among other things, zero-day exploits that the CIA could use against Windows, iOS, Android and Samsung TVs.

Although the CIA had more exploits for Android than for iOS, the agency had a greater interest in iPhones and iPads, WikiLeaks said. According to the site, this is likely due to the popularity of those devices among the political, business and diplomatic elite.
