In WhatsApp, you can now adjust the background per chat. This makes it a lot easier to distinguish between chats. The danger of posting a message in the wrong chat is much smaller. But how do you set a Whatsapp background per chat?

• Open the chat whose background you want to change.
• Tap the chat name at the top for contact info. (Select menu on Android)
• Tap ‘Wallpaper & Sound’ in the menu. (Select Wallpaper on Android)
• Tap Choose a New Wallpaper.
• There are four collections of chat backgrounds to choose from: Bright, Dark, Solid colors or your own photos. Tap one of the collections.
• Tap a wallpaper of your choice.
• When you’re happy with it, tap Set.

Are you using dark mode on your iPhone? Then you will see that the backgrounds also color.

Remove custom background again (Android & iOS)

Do you want to remove the custom background? Then you go through the following steps:

• Open the chat whose background you want to change.
• Tap the chat name at the top for contact info. (Select menu on Android)
• Tap ‘Wallpaper & Sound’ in the menu. (Select Wallpaper on Android)
• Tap Choose a New Wallpaper.
• Tap ‘Remove Custom Background’.

The chat will then get the ‘normal’ chat background again. You can set this up via ‘Settings> Chats> Chat background’.
