Office 365 ProPlus on Windows 7 gets three more years of security updates
Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Office 365 ProPlus software under Windows 7 for the next three years. Initially, that support would end along with that of Windows 7, but the company wants to give customers more time to switch to Windows 10.
Microsoft writes that on a page about the end-of-life of Windows 7. It states that Office 365 ProPlus will also be provided with security updates until January 2023. There is no mention of costs. Until then, it is also possible for Windows 7 to continue to receive security updates, but that costs money under the Extended Security Updates program. Windows 7 standard support will end on January 14, 2020.
Microsoft says it wants to give customers more time to switch to another operating system in this way. The software that is now longer supported consists of the desktop applications that users with an Office 365 subscription can download. According to Microsoft, only security updates will be released, but no new features. If users switch to Windows 10, those updates will be available again.
Microsoft does warn that Windows 7 will no longer be protected against new exploits after the deadline. Normal versions of Office, such as Office 2016, Office Standard 2013, and Office Professional Plus 2016 will no longer be supported after January 14, 2020.
