vBulletin unlike other open source forums such as phpBB and YaBB is commercially released. The program uses PHP and MySQL to start and open user topics, post comments and send private messages. On the vBulletin forum, the developers announced four new versions of the forum software, each development series a new release. To be precise, it’s about version numbers 2.3.103.0.153.5.5 and 3.6.0, all of which have been upgraded due to the discovery of two cross-site scripting flaws in the software. Of the listed versions, the 3.6.0 release is the latest and only version that is fully supported and in active development. The other three versions no longer have support, but will still be patched if a critical bug is found. vBulletin 3.6.0 has a large number of new features, a handful of which are this page be explained. A more detailed overview of new features can be found in this comment on the vBulletin forum. The developers let us know the following:

vBulletin 3.6.0 is now our stable, fully supported version, superseding both 3.0.x and 3.5.x. While we will continue to support 3.0.x and 3.5.x with security and critical bug fixes, these lines are no longer in active development.

Many visitors to this forum will have been keeping tabs on the 3.6 beta and release-candidate versions that have been available for the past several weeks and will be familiar with what is new and improved in vBulletin 3.6.
