Today, version 3.35 of Jkdefrag, an open source hard drive defragmenter, has been released. It is being developed by Jeroen Kessels and is available for Windows 2000 or higher in both a 32-bit and 64-bit version. The download is only 452KB in size and for that you get a version that runs in a DOS box under Windows, a version that can be started from the command line and a version that starts when the screensaver is activated. Those who prefer a graphical user interface can use JkDefragGUI. The changelog of this release shows the following changes:

Changes in JkDefrag version 3.35:

  • Upgraded to the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 compiler.
  • Logfile is now written in UTF-8, it used to be ANSI.
  • Changed the default font to a smaller font.
  • A change in the display code to respond faster to multiple redraw requests, for example when the users resizes the window.
  • Rewrite of the subroutine that finds combinations of files to fill a gap, to make it faster.
  • Changed the algorithm for “-a 6” (move to end of disk) to better fill gaps.
  • Changed the way disks are accessed to accomodate special kinds of disks, such as virtual and encrypted disks.
  • Bugfix in the screensaver for very long commandlines.
  • Change in the disk analysis code to fix a “zero bytes per cluster” problem
