Nvidia releases Shield TV update with 120Hz support and GeForce Now

Nvidia has released an update for its Shield set-top box. This involves several changes, such as support for playback at 120Hz and GeForce Now. Nvidia also publishes a separate app that serves as a virtual keyboard and mouse.

Nvidia recently announced that its GeForce Now beta service would come to the Shield box. This service is now available. Nvidia reports that users can also use a voice chat function in games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds via GeForce Now by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack of their Shield controller. In addition, users can play games that require a keyboard and mouse, thanks to new optimizations.

Via the new app, which comes under the name Nvidia Shield TV for Android and iOS For example, users fill in their credentials with services such as Blizzard and Steam, by using a virtual keyboard or a trackpad for mouse movements. In addition, the app includes a virtual d-pad to control Android TV.

The new 120Hz mode can be used with TVs and screens that support it. Finally, Nvidia brings back the Share function in this update, which allows users to stream to Twitch, for example. The update has version number 7.1 and follows the update that brought Android 8 to the Shield set-top box.
