Microsoft introduces 7.3mm thin Surface Pro X with ARM chip and Surface Pro 7
Microsoft announced new models in its Surface Pro line of 2-in-1 devices on Wednesday. The Surface Pro X has an ARM chip that Microsoft has developed with Qualcomm. The Surface Pro 7 includes USB-C.
Microsoft has named the Surface Pro X’s ARM chip SQ1. According to the company, this has ‘the DNA’ of Snapdragon. This seems to be a variant of the Snapdragon 8cx that Qualcomm has developed specifically for laptops. A spec sheet states that the SQ1 chip has an Adreno 685 GPU. The existing Snapdragon 8cx has the Adreno 680 GPU.
The chipset has a TDP of 7W, but Microsoft did not give any figures about processing power or battery life at the announcement. The soc has an AI engine that should, among other things, relieve the GPU during certain image processing. There is support for fast charging and there is 4g support for mobile internet.
The stylus is rechargeable and can be stored in the housing of the Type Cover, above the keyboard. The 2-in-1 has a 13-inch screen with a resolution of 2880×1920 pixels and a pixel density of 267ppi. The Surface Pro X has a thickness of 7.3mm and weighs 762 grams. The device has two USB-C ports , a webcam capable of recording 4k video and two noise-cancelling microphones.
There will be versions with 8 and 16GB lpddr4x memory and 128, 256 or 512GB storage space. The storage is a replaceable SSD. The Surface Pro X will be available in the US in November for a starting price of $ 999, converted and with VAT that is 1104 euros.
Update, 21:38: Microsoft has announced that the Surface Pro X will be released in the Benelux on November 19 for 1149 euros. The Pro 7 will go on sale on October 22 for 899 euros.
Microsoft also announced the seventh generation of its Surface Pro, without revealing many details. It is clear that the 2-in-1 devices have new Intel chips and retain the 12.3 “screen with a resolution of 2736 × 1824 pixels of the Pro 6. What is new is that they have usb-c in addition to the usb -a-port, which replaces the mini-displayport and the proprietary Surface Connector for charging is still present with the Surface Pro 7. In the US, the convertible can be ordered from October 22.
