9to5Google has gained access to a not yet working Android feature that allows users to transfer an e-SIM to another device. Google previously said it was working on such functionality, but did not yet share any details about how it would work.

9to5Google shares first images of the upcoming e-SIM transfer feature for Android, the basis of which is already hidden in Google Play Services. This shows, among other things, that the function works based on QR codes. Users can use their old phone to scan a QR code on their new device, after which the e-SIM is transferred. It is currently not possible to transfer an e-SIM between two Android smartphones. The function does not currently work, writes 9to5Google.

Google announced earlier this year that it is working on the possibility of transferring an e-SIM to Android. The company would base that feature on standards from the GSMA and release it ‘later this year’. The tech giant shared no further details. Apple previously introduced an option to transfer an e-SIM between two iPhones. It is not known exactly when Google’s feature will become available.
