75 percent of Windows Phone owners are switching to Android or iOS
When owners of a Windows Phone device upgrade to a new smartphone, only 20 percent remain loyal to the mobile operating system. 60 percent switch to Android and 15 percent opt for iOS. Ericsson concludes this in its Mobility Report.
Android users are the most loyal to the OS, according to Ericsson. When choosing a new device, this is again an Android smartphone in 82 percent of the cases. 73 percent of iOS users stay with the same operating system. A large majority of 60 percent of Windows Phone users opt for the switch to Android. Another 15 percent switch to an Apple smartphone with iOS. According to the report, 20 percent choose a new Windows Phone device, what the remaining 5 percent do is not clear in the report. In all cases, it concerns users who chose a new device, while they stayed with the same provider.
The report also states that owners of high-end smartphones are much more loyal to the OS than owners of low-end devices. That would apply to all operating systems. The report also shows that Android users are more likely to upgrade their device. On average, this concerns 2 percent of users per month. With iOS that is 1.5 percent of users per month. In the two weeks after the introduction of a new iPhone, that percentage increases to 4.5 percent. Ericsson uses anonymous data for the Mobility Report, which the company collects from more than 100 of its networks worldwide.
