The 3dRudder to control PlayStation VR games with your feet will be released on June 17th. The foot controller has a flat top and convex bottom, so players can transmit smooth movements to the console with their feet.

According to Sony, the device works with Inertial Measurement Units and pressure-sensitive sensors that detect the tilts of the user. Gamers can use the controller, for example, to steer or look in a certain direction. As a result, gamers no longer have to indicate those movements via a manually operated controller. The hands are then free for, for example, the Move or Aim controllers. According to Sony, this results in movements that feel more intuitive.

The device registers the tilting movements of the user, but the 3dRudder also recognizes this when the device is rotated on its axis. Images of the product show that the user is always seated; presumably a player cannot stand on the 3dRudder.

When the controller comes on the market, more than 25 games will support the device. This includes games such as shooting game Immortal Legacy: The Jade Cipher, racing game Verti-Go Home! and train building game TrainerVR. Sony indicates that more games will support the 3dRudder after release.

The 3dRudder is not a new concept. For example, there is already a 3dRudder for PC games. However, the recently announced PlayStation VR variant is being released in partnership with Sony and is also supported by the PlayStation 4. This 3dRudder version will be released on June 17th and costs 120 euros.
