The Danish Interceptor Entertainment, which acquired developer 3D Realms in 2014, appears to have reached a settlement with Gearbox Software, legal documents show. As a result of the settlement, 3D Realms would regain the rights to Duke Nukem.

Legal documents have been published on the forum of website NeoGaf setting out the settlement between Interceptor Entertainment and Gearbox Software. The settlement ends the battle over Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, a game that 3D Realms has been developing for quite some time. According to Gearbox, 3D Realms, which has been owned by the Danish Interceptor Games since 2014, does not have the right to release new Duke Nukem games. The studio only owns the rights to the old games from the series. It sold the rights to release new games to Gearbox in 2010 so that they could finish developing Duke Nukem Forever.

In February 2014, Gearbox filed a lawsuit against Interceptor to prevent the game from being marketed as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. Under threat of business, the Danish studio changed the game’s name to Bombshell. Now that both parties seem to have reached a settlement, the game could be marketed again as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. However, the settlement is not yet finalized. According to the documents, both companies have 30 days to work out the details of the settlement.
