3D Realms announces Graven as the spiritual successor to Hexen II
3D Realms has announced Graven, a dark shooter that its creators say is a spiritual successor to 1997’s Hexen II. The game will be released next year for PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch.
According to its creators, Graven has been developed in the way that a Hexen II successor could have looked if it had been created in 1998 based on the original Unreal Engine. The new game combines a classic look with modern gameplay elements.
Dig is set in a medieval fantasy setting, and players take on the role of a disgraced priest, who must defeat a variety of monsters. More than thirty weapons and spells are available for this and are also upgradeable. By solving puzzles, players can discover secret parts in levels.
The game will have a split screen mode for co-op and an option to play together with four players online. Dig is published by 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment. Slipgate Ironworks is responsible for the development.
Hexen II is a 1997 classic developed by Raven Software and published by id Software. The developers of the new game do not own the rights to the Hexen name and are therefore putting their own spin on the game.
Exactly when Graven will be released has not yet been announced. The game will be released sometime next year for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch. The price has also not yet been announced.
Rise of the Triad re-releases for consoles and PC
3D Realms also announced that a remaster of Rise of the Triad will be released for consoles and PC next year. The 1995 shooter is re-released with improved textures, support for high resolutions and ultra-widescreen displays. There will also be a Switch version and the game will be getting new multiplayer modes. Not many details have been disclosed yet, the developers say they will provide later.
Images of Kingpin Reloaded
3D Realms also shows images of Kingpin Reloaded. That is a remaster of the game Kingpin – Life of Crime from 1999. The remaster was already announced at the beginning of this year. In a short video you can see some scenes from the game. In particular, the new version will receive improved textures and support for high resolutions and ultra-widescreen displays. Kingpin Reloaded was scheduled for the second quarter of this year, but is not released yet. A release date is unknown.
