Are you planning to buy a bigger iMac? Wait a minute. Apple may launch a new 27-inch iMac 2022 early next year, and it features some notable innovations. That writes the very reliable analyst Ross Young.

Earlier this year, a new small iMac with a renewed and colorful design appeared. It got a bigger screen: it grew from 21.5 to 24 inches. The big iMac was not updated then. For a long time it was thought that it too would grow, from 27 to 30 or 32 inches. But the size of the large iMac will likely remain unchanged. However, Young also knows what is new about the 27-inch iMac 2022.

New iMac 27 inch: screen greatly improved

The 27-inch iMac will have a mini LED screen, according to Young. Or in Apple terms: a Liquid Retina XDR display. Behind the screen you have many small lighting zones that can be turned on or off individually. The advantage? Much better contrast and higher brightness. In addition, the iMac 2022 will have a ProMotion screen. The refresh rate of the screen can vary from 24 to 120 Hz, depending on the content shown. Everything on the screen feels just that little bit smoother.

This gives the 27-inch iMac 2022 the same benefits as the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro that Apple presented at an event last Monday. This Mac also has a Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology.

iMac 27 inch M1 Pro and Max

The future iMac promises to be a kind of ‘Pro’ model anyway. In addition to the much more advanced screen, the iMac is also expected to get the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips that are also in the new MacBook Pro. According to Young, the new iMac should be released in the first quarter of 2022. Earlier, he was right about the size of the new iPad mini 2021 and the ProMotion screen of the new MacBook Pro 2021.
