25-year-old Quake gets new Horde mode
The first-person shooter Quake is getting a new mode called Horde 25 years after its original release. In this, players must defeat waves of enemies that become increasingly difficult until the players die. Also, the fan mod Honey is officially released.
Horde mode can be played solo or co-op with up to three others. The latter can be done locally and online. Publisher Bethesda reports that four new maps have been added especially for this stand. Horde mode has no real ending and can theoretically go on forever. After every ninth wave of enemies, however, players will be given the option to go to the exit if they want to stop without having to die first.
The Quake update also adds the Honey add-on to the game, featuring unique maps set in subterranean temples and dark caves. Honey was originally released in 2012 as a fan mod. The creator of that mod, meanwhile, works at MachineGames, which contributed to this Quake rerelease developed by Nightdive Studios. Hence, the studio has decided to make the mod official.
This update is available on all platforms where the Quake re-release was released. Simultaneously with the release of the update, the game will also be made available on the Epic Games Store. Previously, the game was only available on PC via Steam. The fps is also available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
