The App Store is blowing ten candles this year. To celebrate that, App Annie a company that analyzes the app market treats us to all sorts of entertaining statistics. What are the most popular iPad and iPhone apps, for example? Which games do iOS users play the most dazedly? And what were the most popular apps in the year 2010

Most popular iPhone apps ever

In a report App, Annie shows how apps have drastically reduced our lives changed’. On average, we use 40 different apps per month, where we spend 3 hours on it every day. The research agency was founded in 2010, so only figures from this calendar year are included.

The following apps were most frequently downloaded and are the most popular apps ever:

  6. Google Maps

Facebook is the most popular iPhone app of all time. The social media app was downloaded no less than 700 million times between 2010 and 2018. It is striking that Facebook also has three other apps in the top five of the all-time list: Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

With Google Maps and YouTube, Google is also doing well in the top ten. Messaging services and social media apps Snapchat, Skype, WeChat and QQ complete the top 10.

Popular iPhone games ever

App Annie also compiled a list of the most popular iPad and iPhone games of all time. These game apps have been downloaded the most since 2010:

When we look at which apps we spend most of our time since 2010, the list of most popular apps looks very different:

2010 versus 2018

In 2010, two years after the launch of the App Store, the game Talking Tom Cat was the most downloaded app of the year. The app revolves around a cat that responds to your voice and you can play with him in various ways. Worldwide, Talking Tom Cat was downloaded no less than 7 million times. Other popular apps were Facebook, Skype, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Twitter, Google, Shazam, Google Earth, Bump, and Netflix.

Now the list looks completely different – on Facebook. The Chinese social media platform Tik Tok leads the list, followed by YouTube, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, WeChat, Google Maps, Snapchat, and Gmail.
